Opened in 1989, the Heart Institute at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point is a leading facility in the treatment of heart and vascular disease. One of Florida's most comprehensive and advanced centers, the Heart Institute provides a full range of quality adult cardiac services atreasonable costs. The Heart Institute's affiliated physicians are dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease. They provide comprehensive cardiac service while working closely with primary care physicians to achieve the best result for each patient. The experienced nurses, technicians, therapists, dieticians and chaplains who support the physician's efforts, enhance this commitment to excellence.

Cardiology Services, which include our Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, the Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Laboratory, Periperal Vascular Lab, dedicated Endovascular Suite and our Non-Invasive Center, are dedicated to the study, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in adults. In our five state of the art cath labs, more than 6800 cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures, including laser, advanced stenting and brachytherapy were performed last year, utilizing the most current FDA approved technology. Since 1989 we have proudly served over 50,000 patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at Regional Medical Center. As we move through the 21st century, the Cardiology Services at Regional Medical Center will continue to be a leader in cardiac care.
The Heart Institute's surgical program includes four specially designed and equipped operating suites, a twenty bed Cardiac Surgical Unit and a forty bed Progressive Care Unit. Since 1989, we have performed over 11,000 open-heart procedures, including TMR, the Batista procedure, MAZE surgery, mini valve surgery, off pump (beating heart) bypass surgery, etc.More than 800 open heart procedures were performed last year alone.
Over 600 arrhythmia procedures are performed each year in our dedicated Electrophysiology Laboratory, including Radio frequency Ablation, Bi-Ventricular Pacemaker implantation, Automated Defibrillator implantation, and Arrhythmia Mapping procedures.
