Heart Institute
Cardiac Surgery Program
In 1989, The Heart Institute at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point performed the first open-heart procedures in Florida's Suncoast Region, opening what has become, in just ten years, one of the highest volume centers in the country.
Today we perform over 1500 surgeries annually with results we are very proud of. Patients from all over West Central Florida come to us knowing that our experience makes the difference.
Our surgical program uses four specially designed and equipped operating suites, a twenty bed Cardiac Surgical Recovery Unit and a twenty-seven bed Progressive Care Unit to provide patient care.
Catheterization Labs
Many cases do not require surgery, making it a necessity for a full service heart institute to provide a wide assortment of diagnostic and treatment modalitites that are effective, current, and patient friendly.
Annually, our professionals perform over 5,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures using five state of the are catheterization rooms, one of which is dedicated to electrophysiology. We were among the first in Florida to adopt 'film-less' technology in all of our Cath Labs, giving our physicians the opportunity to read and react to vital test results in a fraction of the time it once took.
Vascular Center
In the late 1990's, we expanded our horizons for the treatment of heart related ailments and embarked upon a project to create the area's premiere vascular center. Focusing on circulatory problems that are 'beyond heart disease', the professionals at our center diagnose and treat conditions thought just years ago to be 'untreatable'. Here too, our commitment to quality remains strong, as our Vasular Lab is the only accredited facility in the area.
